Expert care for the face, mouth and jaw

Oral and maxillofacial surgery (OMFS) is a specialised field of medicine focused on the diagnosis and treatment of conditions affecting the face, jaws, teeth and surrounding structures. It combines advanced surgical expertise with dental knowledge to manage a wide range of functional, medical and cosmetic concerns.

At Ringwood Private Hospital our dedicated oral and maxillofacial surgery service provides high-quality, patient-centred care in a modern, comfortable private hospital environment.

Oral and Maxillofacial surgeons (OMFS) are highly trained specialists who treat disorders, injuries and defects of the mouth, jaws, face and neck.

OMFS are trained to manage a variety of conditions that include the surgical aspects of dentistry, injuries and deformities of the upper and lower jaws (maxilla and mandible), the temporomandibular joint (TMJ) and facial bones, as well as salivary gland pathology and cancers of the head and neck.

Many OMFS focus on one or more of these areas to specifically development defined sub-specialty expertise within the wider scope of specialty practice.

Treatment may be required for a variety of reasons, including pain, injury, infection, developmental problems or to improve facial function and appearance.

Private Health & Self-funding options

Private Health

As a private hospital, we work with most major Australian private health insurers. Your specialist or insurer can assist you in understanding likely costs and rebates before your procedure.

Self-funding

If you don’t have private health insurance, or if your procedure isn’t covered by your current policy, you may choose to self‑fund your treatment.

Whether you use your private health insurance or self fund, a referral from your dentist, GP or specialist is required for a consultation with an oral and maxillofacial surgeon.

If you are experiencing jaw pain, dental problems, facial injury or have been referred for maxillofacial treatment, our team is here to help.

Detailed profiles of all accredited visiting Maxillofacial Surgeons, including special interests and referral preferences, are available online.
