When lymph nodes or vessels become blocked or damaged, it can cause swelling and a build-up of fluid in the body's soft tissues. This condition is called lymphoedema.

Some surgeries are known to lead to lymphoedema. If this is part of your cancer experience, our team is here to support you, with a focus on early identification and helping you regain optimal function.

Complete lymphoedema care in one location

Pre-operative assessment

Before surgery you may have an appointment with one of our highly trained lymphoedema professionals. You’ll be assessed using state-of-the-art equipment, and a personalised treatment program will be created. You’ll learn about lymphoedema and how to get the most from your post-operative treatment program.

Monitoring

You’ll be monitored post surgery and at key times during your cancer journey. We’ll continue to help monitor and provide you with the best possible management options for your lymphoedema.

Lymphoedema management

Treatment will include a comprehensive management plan of exercises and education about the best practice care of the affected area.

Depending on your goals and the findings from your assessment, treatment may also include manual lymphatic drainage (massage), compression therapy, intermittent pneumatic compression, kinesiotape and low-level laser.
